Rafael Devers has recently been traded from the Boston Red Sox to the San Francisco Giants in a blockbuster deal. The trade, which occurred just hours after he homered in a 2-0 Red Sox win over the Yankees on Sunday, June 15, 2025, sent pitchers Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison, and prospects James Tibbs III and Jose Bello to Boston.
This move comes amidst reports of tension between Devers and the Red Sox front office regarding his playing position. Devers had signed a 10-year, $313.5 million contract extension with the Red Sox in 2023, and the Giants will be taking on the remainder of that contract.
Despite the off-field issues, Devers has been performing exceptionally well this season, putting up career-best offensive numbers. He also recently revealed that he had been playing through a mild groin strain, though he stated he is feeling better now. This injury had caused some concern after a viral clip showed him slowing down on the basepaths in a recent game.
